Our Fourth Annual Write! London.
For the first time we will include workshops on poetry.
Workshops
The Essentials of Writing Poetry
Speaker: D.S. Martin
Poetry is the most highly focused form of writing, and is ideal for fine-tuning your writing skills. This workshop will help you to understand what makes poetry good. Feel free to bring your own poetry, your questions and criticisms. Learn about techniques, inspiration and what to avoid. This workshop will make a better writer of you.
D.S. Martin’s poetry has appeared in journals such as Arc, Canadian Literature, The Fiddlehead and Windsor Review. He is the author of So The Moon Would Not Be Swallowed (2007 Rubicon Press) and of the forthcoming collection, Poiema (2008 Wipf & Stock). He is also Music Critic for Christian Week. www.dsmartin.ca
Getting the Word Out
Speaker: Donna Dawson
Writing doesn’t end with the completion of that article or book. Authors in this day and age are constantly in need of finding ways to get their work into the hands of readers. Donna offers practical easy ways to get the word out. She will help you define your purpose as a writer, come up with inexpensive ways to promote and prioritize your marketing methods to get you more coverage.
Donna lives with her husband in rural Ontario where she has written her novels Redeemed, The Adam & Eve Project, Vengeance and The Quinces. She has written for Guideposts, Beyond Ordinary Living, The Paint Horse Journal, 3.1.6. A Journal of Christian Thinking and Inscribe’s Fellowscript. Donna is a columnist for the St Marys Journal Argus and for OFTP’s Home Rules newsletter and is a contributing author for Hot Apple Cider. www.authordonnadawson.com
You Can Write a Devotional
Speakers: Mary Haskett and Ruth Smith Meyer
The workshop participant will learn the fundamentals of writing a meaningful devotional: with valuable information that will resonate with the readers. During the course each participant will craft a devotional ready for submission. Please bring Bibles and a concordance if you have one available.
Mary Haskett has been published in Upper Room Magazine, Beyond Ordinary Living, Every Day Grace, Every Day Miracles and Christian Life in London. She contributed to and edited a history booklet for her local church. Her book Reverend Mother’s Daughter is currently enjoying success in Canada and further afield. Mary is also an experienced Bible study teacher and workshop facilitator. www.reverendmothersdaughter.com
Ruth Smith Meyer has been a regular contributor to the REJOICE! Magazine for six years. Each assignment consists of a week’s worth of 230-260 word devotionals on selected scriptures. She brings a rich background of worship leading, inspirational speaking and life experiences to her writing. Many of her poems have been published in various magazines. Her first novel, Not Easily Broken, released last fall, has been well received and she is currently at work on a sequel. www.inscribe.org/ruthsmithmeyer
