Tracing My Journey: Canadian Writers Share Their Stories
Carolyne Aarsen - Romance NovelistLiving on a farm at the intersection of No and Where, Carolyne Aarsen wondered if her dream of publication was foolishness or something that required the same pig-headed stubbornness she saw in her livestock. The latter, it seemed. Twenty-two books later, she still feels surprise when she sees her name on the cover of a published novel. Join her as she talks about a journey that took her from unpaid columns for local newspapers to that elusive contract with a New York publisher.
Connie Brummel Cook - Historical NovelistConnie Brummel Crook began her writing career after she attended her first God Uses Ink conference in 1988 (the previous name of Write! Canada)—and after she retired from 30 years of teaching in Ontario’s public secondary schools. This reading specialist decided that she wanted to bring Canadian history alive for students in the classroom by writing historical fiction that captures their imaginations. Connie will share how she dealt with challenges in her life, including being widowed as a young mother.
Denyse O'Leary - Journalist, Science WriterHow did Denyse O’Leary go from secretary, to editor, to full-time writer? Well, slowly, but surely. Her talk will tackle difficulties that writers face today, the risks and the costs, and practical problems that can sink your writing career no matter how much you believe in yourself. These include understanding today’s publishing market, working with booksellers, and helping your book after its publication. Fortunately, practical problems invite practical solutions, and we will look at where and how to find them.
You will meet other writers who are Christian and who share your calling and passion. Over coffee breaks and delicious meals, you will trade ideas, share experiences, and make new friends. You will enjoy other popular conference features, including open mike reading sessions, worship times and a bookstore. See the conference schedule.
