Frequently Asked QuestionsClick the questions to see the answers. If you print this page, all answers will be visible. Questions about RegistrationQ: What US exchange rate should I use to pay for the conference? A: You can pay with a U.S. credit card when registering online. If you don't want to register online, please contact the registrar for the current exchange rate. Q: Does my group qualify for a group rate? A: The group rate is available to missions, Christian publications and non-profit organizations that are sending their staff for professional development. It is not available to writers' groups or church groups. Q: What happens if I have to cancel my conference registration? A: No refunds will be given after June 1. If we are notified of your cancellation before June 1, you will be refunded the amount paid less a $50 non-refundable administration fee. Q: Can I attend part of the conference and pay less? A: No. If you are unable to attend the full conference and don't wish to pay the full fee, please consider attending a future one-day conference instead (e.g., Write! Toronto, Write! Montreal). Q: I can't afford the registration fee -- is financial help available? A: Before contacting The Word Guild to request a bursary, we suggest that you speak with your pastor or someone else in leadership and ask if your church would be able to give you financial assistance to attend the conference. This would be a way for your church to help you develop your talent for writing, which then would allow greater opportunity for you to minister to others, both in your local church and beyond. Bursaries may be available from The Word Guild for those who demonstrate financial need and a serious commitment to writing. Send a letter outlining why a bursary is needed, a 2-3 page sample of your writing, and a letter of reference from your pastor or another writer/editor. When describing your financial situation, please tell us how much you could afford to pay toward the conference costs. A limited number of bursaries is available. Apply as soon as possible if you wish to be considered. Questions about Classes and WorkshopsQ: Can I switch classes after I am registered? A: Since classrooms are assigned and handouts prepared based on the choices you make on the registration form, organizers hope that most people will not switch classes. However, if you decide you have made the wrong choice, you are permitted to attend a different class. It will help us if you notify the registrar about your change of plan. Q: How do I decide what classes and workshops to sign up for? A: Choosing classes is a completely individual decision; only you know what type of writing you are most interested in, what writing experience you have had, etc. The Continuing Class is the most important choice because it is five hours of in-depth instruction. Before you choose, carefully study the course descriptions and faculty biographies (listed by names A-M and N-Z). Q: Can I get more information about continuing classes and workshops? A: No. All the information we have about continuing classes and workshops is provided on this website. Please do NOT phone the registrar to request advice on which class to sign up for, because she is very busy processing the incoming registrations. Questions about AccommodationA: Accommodation at the conference centre on Wednesday night is only available for conference staff and faculty, and for volunteers who have arranged in advance to arrive early to help with set-up. For others, please check out our Off-Site Accommodation listing. A: Unfortunately, because our space is limited, we cannot offer rooms or meals to guests who are not registered for the conference. The only exception is for health care aides. We suggest that you check out our Off-Site Accomodation Listing. Q: Can I stay at the conference grounds for an extra night on Saturday after the conference ends? A: Unfortunately, this is not possible because the staff needs to prepare for another group arriving on Sunday. Q: The registration form asks for a preferred roommate. What if I don't know anyone else? A: People who are coming alone will be assigned a roommate of the same sex. Organizers try to assign people in similar age ranges. Often, people make new friends this way. Q: I would like to have a private room. Are single rooms available? A: Since on-site accommodation is so limited, we can't offer single rooms to registrants. If you wish to have your own private room, consider booking at the nearby accommodations. See Off-Site Accommodation Listing. Q: Is any off-site accommodation available near the Conference Centre? A: If you wish to stay off-site, you are responsible for making your own reservations and transportation arrangements. Please check out our Off-Site Accommodation Listing.
Questions About the Conference CentreQ: How do I get to the Guelph Bible Conference Centre? A: Your registration package, which will be mailed after your registration is processed, includes a map and all necessary information about location, transportation, schedule, etc. Q: Can I get transportation to and from local airports? A: We have arranged a special rate with Red Car shuttle service for Write! Canada participants travelling from either the Toronto or Hamilton airports. Details are in the package you will receive after registering for the conference. Q: Are the grounds completely accessible for those who are physically disabled or use wheelchairs? A: Most of the grounds are accessible, including the main building, which houses the dining room, lounge, inn and classrooms, and the nearby Tabernacle and ground floor of the Lodge (historic house). Bedrooms in the inn, and the lower level classrooms, are accessible through a lift, for which you pay a refundable deposit of about $15 to obtain a key upon arrival. Choose Accommodation Category D or G for easier accessibility. Three wheelchair-accessible rooms are available. However, please note that there is some distance between buildings. Some classes will be held in the Chapel on the adjacent property, which requires about 5-minute walk down a driveway or requesting a ride. The sanctuary on the main floor is accessible; unfortunately, the upstairs classrooms are not. Organizers will not know which classes will be booked in those rooms until immediately before the conference, depending on registration numbers. Although organizers will do their best to accommodate, if you are unable to climb the flight of stairs to reach those classrooms, you may need to attend an alternate choice of classes. Q: I'm a vegetarian, or I have dietary restrictions. Can I order special meals in the dining room? A: The conference kitchen provides nutritious meals but is not equipped to handle special menu requests. If you follow a special diet, organizers suggest that you choose what you are able to eat from the food provided and then supplement that with food brought with you. A small refrigerator and a microwave are in the lounge. We encourage everyone to eat in the dining room to enjoy the fellowship and interaction, and to hear the special features taking place at the microphone. However, in exceptional cases where you have severe dietary restrictions, please contact the registrar to inquire about registering without the meal package. |
