Donations and Tax Receipts

 
The Word Guild is part of Christian Info Canada, a registered not-for-profit charitable organization.

 Could you help a writer who does not have the financial resources but who does have the enthusiasm, writing ability and commitment to benefit from attending Write! Canada, or from becoming a member of The Word Guild? If so, please consider The Word Guild's bursary program. You will receive a charitable tax receipt and you will make an invaluable contribution to someone’s writing goals and dreams.

Donations are used in many ways:
  • to provide important services that help to connect, develop and support Canadian writers and editors who are Christian;
  • to bring more top-notch instructors, publishers, editors and literary agents to teach and mentor attendees at Write! Canada, and at regional one-day events throughout Canada;
  • to provide bursaries to talented writers who could not otherwise attend conferences and regional events;
  • to provide bursaries for writers who could not otherwise afford to become members of The Word Guild;
  • to help us develop new ways to nurture Canadian writers who are Christian.

Notes: You will receive a charitable tax receipt in early 2009 from Christian Info Canada. Please note that donations earmarked for specific people cannot be receipted by law. All contributions made to the bursary fund will be dispersed based on need, potential as a writer, pastoral affirmation, and funds available.

We can only issue tax receipts for donations, not for membership dues or conference fees. Those items may, however, be claimed as business expenses.


Christian Info Canada (CIC)


The Word Guild celebrated its sixth anniversary in January 2008 by graduating from its position as a start-up project under Imago and amalgamating with the registered charity Christian Info Canada (CIC).

The Word Guild operated from 2002 to 2007 as a project of Imago, a registered charity that encourages the development of Christians in the arts. TWG found a permanent corporate home within Christian Info Canada, which provides us with  a stable foundation for future growth. Christian Info was originally founded in 1976 in Alberta. During its first era, Lois Bromley ran an information centre in Calgary. Lloyd Mackey, a pioneer in establishing Christian community newspapers in Canada, reinstated the organization as a registered charity in 1996 (after it had become inactive) and changed the name to Christian Info Canada.

The Word Guild's long-term goal is to impact the Canadian cultural landscape. Our mandate of strengthening and developing the Canadian Christian writing and publishing community fits well with CIC's objective to provide increased communication within the Christian community.
