About Us

Vision Statement

Our goal is to impact the Canadian culture through the words of Canadian writers and editors with a Christian worldview. We will do this by connecting, developing and promoting Canadian writers and editors who are Christian.

The Word Guild is an association of Canadian writers and editors who are Christian, and who are committed to encouraging one another and to fostering standards of excellence in the art, craft, practice and ministry of writing. The association, which was launched in January 2002, has grown to 325 members across Canada, including approximately 100 professional members (as of January 2008).

Our name is taken from the opening words of the Gospel of John. Our name refers to the one who is The Word, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who is the source of all truth and light and inspiration; and to the words that we write in order to serve and honour Him. Therefore, "The" is always capitalized when referring to The Word Guild.

Members are journalists, business communicators, poets, playwrights, non-fiction authors, novelists, publication editors, freelance editors and more. We write for mainstream and Christian publications, businesses, charities, not-for-profit organizations, churches, television, radio, the Internet and for our own pleasure. Although members represent a wide range of ages, experience levels, writing genres, geographic locations, personal backgrounds, denominational affiliations and theological beliefs, our community is united in our desire to use our writing to glorify God and to further His kingdom.
